Description
of Organization
St.
Thomas is an Episcopal Church that strives to meet the spiritual
needs of the Village of Terrace Park and the surrounding communities.
Because of the special closeness we have enjoyed with the
neighborhood in which we are located, we are often called
the "community church" for Terrace Park. People
of all denominations worship with us, and all are welcome
to participate in our many activities of Christian fellowship,
education, and service to the needs of the poor. Please call
the Parish Office 831-2052 if you would like to receive our
monthly newsletter "Tidings," which tells about
our current programs.
Membership
Information
You
do not need to be an Episcopalian to belong to St. Thomas
Church, and you are welcome to worship with us anytime with
no strings attached no matter where you currently are in your
faith walk. Come and try us on! Please fill out one of the
yellow pew cards when you are here, or call the Parish Office
if you would like to arrange an appointment with one of the
clergy to explore membership. We do not have any membership
"dues." Ultimately, it is the responsibility of
each person to discern how best to work, pray, and give toward
the spread of the Gospel and the strength of St. Thomas Church.
Generally speaking, members in good standing attend worship
services more often than not, and make an annual financial
pledge for the work of the Lord through this church. The amount
of each person's pledge is not determined by the church. Rather,
we encourage each of our members to consider prayerfully what
an appropriate pledge should be.

Additional
Information
St
Thomas Church is located on the corner of Miami Avenue and
Terrace Place, where once stood Covalt Station--an 18th century
pioneer fort and settler outpost. The earliest portion of
the current church was erected in 1909 as a memorial to Terrace
Park circus owner John Robinson's wife and daughter. Subsequent
additions have occurred in 1948--parlor and offices; 1952--chancel
and sanctuary (area around the altar); 1957--church school
wing and balcony; columbarium--1985. The church is open on
most weekdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. for those who wish to stop
in for prayer and quiet time. Our meeting spaces are often
available to community groups at no cost. All current residents
of Terrace Park and their immediate families are eligible
to have their wedding ceremonies here (please phone the Rector
for details). In addition, residents of Terrace Park who wish
to have their ashes remain in the Village after death may
make provision to have them interred in the columbarium. Special
projects of St. Thomas Church through the years have been
the St. Thomas Nursery School which is located in our church
school wing, Thomaston Woods (a 100-unit low income apartment
complex in Amelia), and most recently the St. Thomas Choir
of Men and Boys.
