About TPEMS The Terrace Park Emergency Medical Service, (TPEMS) is staffed by approximately 25 volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) who provide emergency medical assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The EMS Chief is appointed by the Mayor, and must be approved by Council. The appointment is for life, after a 6 month probation period. The Chief names the other officers and scheduler. Volunteers serve as trainees, at the Chief’s discretion, for at least one year.

After completing a 138 hour training class, recruits must pass a National Registry exam. All personnel are required to attend at least one drill (lecture/practicum) per month and renew their licenses every three years. (License renewal is primarily accomplished by earning the requisite number of continuing education units in each of several required subject areas.) Personnel renew their CPR certificates annually.

At least 2 EMT’s staff every duty shift; 2400 – 0800 (midnight crew), 0800 – 1800 (day crew) and 1800 – 2400 (evening crew). They carry pagers to alert them to runs and immediately report to the station to board the ambulance and respond. Since approximately one-third of Terrace Park Emergency Medical runs require advanced medical procedures, the Village contracts with Miami Township for paramedic service.

In 2003, the Village Council and the Terrace Park Volunteer Emergency Services, (TPVES, the business arm of the Fire Department and EMS) collaborated to purchase a Horton ambulance. The new vehicle replaced a 1984 ambulance.

Terrace Park EMS participates in the Pancake Supper each November. TPVES also publishes the Terrace Park Phone Directory every two years.
